Independence Day!
We had a fun-filled non-stop day!! I am grateful for the freedom that we have to choose how we exhaust ourselves and load our day with fun and laughs.
John was in charge of the flag raising ceremony and patriotic program this year. It started at 8:00 at our church building followed by a Boy Scout-sponsored breakfast burrito bar.
The program was great and the real treat for me was . . .
having Christian sing a solo!
He did very well and I am so proud of him. Even though he had just woken up, and barely rehearsed, he didn't miss a beat. He was supposed to be holding a little flag and doing the "actions" that he learned to "You're a Grand Old Flag" that he learned in Pre-K (because that was more 'comfortable' for him), but instead he just got right up and grabbed the mic and started singing! (see video below) He was great!

The Peppermint Street
Independence Day Parade!
It seems like we've always been out of town for this annual event, so we were happy to finally participate! After the breakfast, the kids decked out their bikes and scooters, and even found a little fun for Cole for the noon-time parade.
After the parade and treats at a neighbor's house, Madison, Brooke and I went to JoAnn Fabrics to pick out material to make rag quilts. Madison had so much fun making hers, and our ward is doing quilting sessions during the summer so Brooke wanted to make one, too. She had a great time picking out several different fabrics and we are excited to see how it all turns out.
Then we went out to Port Hueneme with the Boyntons for a late lunch/early dinner on the pier at Andy's Seafood and Fresh Fish Market. It was great - there was a live band playing so we hung out and listened to the music while we ate some awesome seafood and chatted for a couple of hours. Then . . .
The Fireworks
We went over to a nearby park where we could watch the fireworks show and not be stuck in traffic. Many families that we know showed up and we had fun playing until it got dark.
Happy 4th of July!!

I love it! Thanks for the video!
THAT IS AWESOME! Thank you for sharing...made our day. He definitely has talent. I can see the future with Christian the lead singer and his sisters playing the piano.
He's adorable ;)
