It happened again.
Why not? It's now become a tradition. Why would anyone want to stay healthy when John is out of town? Remember last summer? Nearly everyone got sick at some point each time he was away in June, and again in July.
Well, last week when John was in Kansas City, Christian awoke on Wednesday with with a bizarre rash. Off to the pediatrician we go! Luckily it wasn't chicken pox, but urticaria, or more commonly known as hives.
It spread, and itched, and spread, and itched, and spread, and itched,
trying an Aveeno Oatmeal bath
and spread, and swelled, and itched, and swelled, and spread day after day
until it reached every little inch of his tiny body, ending with his feet on Saturday and swelling them so that he could not bare to stand or walk. My heart broke every time I looked at him. He was such a trooper and was so strong even though he was in pain and tremendous discomfort.
So John comes home for a day to witness this, then takes off again, this time for SWEDEN, only to have Madison vomit all over the deep shag carpet and pillows not even 4 /12 hours into his flight! Just as he was driving away, he asked, "now who is going to get sick next?" Like it's a joke . . . uh, no - it's now tradition!
I threw away the pillows, called my neighbor at nearly midnight to ask for my carpet shampooer back that she was borrowing and spent the middle of the night cleaning up after yet another mess. Oh the joys of parenting!!!! I won't even go into the details of the dog (we had my niece Amber and her dog here for the weekend) that kept trying to eat the vomit. I had to wake Amber up to take care of him and clean the vomit off him so I could clean up Madison and my house. What a mess!
It must have been something Madison ate, because she was totally fine after the violent spewing session. I am the one still recovering, I think.
Sacrament was so fun with five kids - one who was so tired and just wanted to sleep on my lap, and the other two who are either wanting to fight over the same toys or are squealing with delight - either way was totally disruptive.
John texted me during Sacrament meeting to say he arrived in Sweden, and I texted him back:
Single parenting bites!

We had a similar tradition. When I delivered Ben, Tighe and Jeremy got chicken pox. While in the hospital for another surgery two years later, Ben got chicken pox. John said he was glad we didn't have any more children who needed to get chicken pox, as he figured it meant I was done with hospital stays.
I'm so sorry! You are my hero. I don't know how you do it. Ben has some things planned in the near future, making me a single parent off and on, and I keep thinking, "If Marrianne can do it with 4 kids, I can do it with 2 kids."
OH TERRIBLE!! That does not sound like it was a fun weekend...and I'm especially sorry about that dumb dog! Had Christian cleared up yet?
OUCHHHH!!!
Hives are icky. I've had them a few times. Allergic reactions to antibiotics and a weird green and yellow bee.
Do you know what caused it?
Poor little guy!
When it rains it pours for you!! Hope everyone feels better!!!
I get to be a single parent next month. John will be in Casper, Wyoming...
Ohh yeah, I make my own Aveeno bath...I put oatmeal in the blender about a 1/2 cup at a time and blend until fine. Works great! And much cheaper when I buy them on sale for $1.00!
That is awful! The rash looks wicked and vomit is the worst!!!!!
So sorry :(
Tell John you get to go next time.
It is funny, I was sitting on the back row when you came in all dressed perfectly and hair looking nice. I thought, there is Marrianne just managing things like it is nothing that John is out of town. One would never know the stress you have been under. I was so impressed. So you survived again.
You are amazing!!!

When we met you, Marrianne, for the first time, dad said "John, that's a keeper!!!" And we are so glad you are the patient, loving, kind, industrious mother of four of our grandchildren. We pray for your family on a regular basis.
Sorry Mus kept trying to eat Madis spew! Amber still doesnt remember waking up to help?...I think it's better that way! Thanks for taking them and I think we'll keep them in town next time we go out of town!...Amber said "Aunty Ri was a little stressed?" lol
OH your poor children! Christian looks to sad! AND POOR YOU! I'm sorry that every one always gets sick when your home alone.
I totally agree. WHen Jason was traveling all the time - one of our littles would end up in the ER! NO JOKE! I am sorry to see little Christian's rash! That is just the saddest thing! I won't even start on the vomit thing - yikes and the dog! SICK! Guess that dog decision is already solid in your brain - no dog ever. HA!
Hope you time is easier!
Those hives are sooooooo sad. Those pictures make me cry!
Hope things are going better with ALL the kids!
You deserve a spa day after that!
That BITES!! Two kids down, two to go. Hang in there!
Ouch. And I totally agree with your title.
That does bite! It's so funny (but not so funny) that things like this happen everytime John travels. Keep hanging in there.
So, I forgot to tell you. Chelsea broke out again while we were on vacation just like this. The allergist had no answers for us either. We are narrowing it down to maybe citrus. When she drinks lemonaide or orange juice she breaks out. She won't eat oranges and people say when kids are allergic to something, they usually will refuse to eat that thing. Who doesn't like oranges? I don't know, maybe I am just a freak making something up to make myself feel better. I am really sick of the break outs though.
