December 4

We only got some of the Christmas boxes down from the attic because during Thanksgiving weekend, we didn't want to deal with the mess! It's kind of nice only having some of the stuff out . . . not too cluttered (yet). We managed to pull out the gorgeous, simple, pre-lit tree today, but of course the lights aren't cooperating -- even the ones in which the whole strand is supposed to stay on when one bulb goes out -- yeah right.
I don't know if we are going to get lights on the house this year. John's right arm is still out of commission, and he badly sprained his left thumb. What's next? I don't want to know!

But this little Nativity scene is super cute! I love it. I usually have the little star hanging from the chandelier above. I'm going to bring it to our ward Christmas party on Friday night to be one of the table centerpieces.
Today we also ordered all of our Christmas presents and John's birthday present from one location and it only took a few minutes: We bought a new sliding glass door for the family room, which is so badly needed and put off way too long, just in time for the government energy tax rebate.
We told the kids that's what everyone's getting for Christmas because it was so ridiculously expensive. They're poor little sad faces!! Now they'll be extra excited when they see a couple wrapped packages under the tree.

Christopher Pop-in-Kins

Christopher Elf comes to visit us every year right after Thanksgiving.
The doorbell rings, and there he is! We love having him visit our family. He moves around the house freely, it's always a treat to find him perched in a new location where he can have a good vantage point so he can report back to Santa the good (and not-so-good) that he sees among the Merrill children.

Welcome to My Online Advent Calendar

I love my friend Janae's tradition that she does every year; she posts on her blog every day in December the happenings leading up to Christmas.
I'm taking her idea.
I'll call it my Blog Advent Calendar.

This is December First.
Although it does not have much to do with Christmas, I'm sure it's the best Christmas present Cole could imagine.
Sandy and Cole got married. They honeymooned for ten whole days in the exotic locale of our backyard (which no longer has green grass, thank you!).
Sandy's family came to pick her up today, December 1st. This photo is them posing quite stoically - or regally maybe - which I have to say is much better than the other positions they were in for much of her visit.

They are gorgeous dogs. Cole has an impeccable pedigree. Anyone want a puppy? We'll know for sure soon. If this was a successful marriage, we're looking at the family expanding the end of January.
